Dignity for Days.

PROVIDING POWER OVER THE PERIOD
&CHANGING WOMEN'S HEALTHCARE

THE ISSUE

Out of the 1.8 billion girls and women in the world of reproductive age, 500 million of them lack proper facilities for managing their periods. This statistic and many like it break my heart.

All over the world, girls are using anything they can get their hands on to manage the natural bleeding. And when I say anything, I mean literally ANYTHING (Leaves and animal dung included).

Not only are these girls putting their health at risk by using germ-filled items in such sensitive areas, but they are also putting their education and dignity at risk. Girls without access to adequate feminine hygiene products miss around 22-24 days of school each year and many drop out entirely. They are forced into embarrassing and uncomfortable situations because of the utter lack of affordable and reusable care.

Well, I think it's time to change that. My name is Ansley Blomberg, and I'm here to help give these girls DIGNITY FOR DAYS.

"Ansley has picked an issue for her gold project that is an often overlooked and a taboo subject amongst women’s issues in developing countries – the lack of affordable and sanitary feminine hygiene products. Access to these items is needed by women of all ages and the opportunity to help impoverished women develop a business to handmake them for sale in their own communities and to organizations that distribute these products for teenagers will be deeply impactful on multiple levels from helping teen girls stay in school to helping mothers provide for their families. Ansley’s research on materials, kit design and educational materials has already been so helpful – I can’t wait to see what she will accomplish for Ugandan women by the time she finishes!"
